junk drawer to desk drawer

the idea was to clean out a junk drawer, but my desk drawer had turned into a junk drawer and that's just not productive or, let's face it, cool. enough was enough.

this was the drawer (the one-and-only):

so, first i took the drawer out of the desk so that i could see everything crammed in there. this included some old batteries that had leaked everywhere and lots of scraps of trash to just toss. i took everything out, put small children's toys (that i had probably confiscated and shoved away) back in their respective proper places, cleaned the bottom of the drawer with an all-purpose cleaner to get rid of the battery acid, and put some little organizing baskets in there. I found them in the dollar section at Staples!  then i sorted and purged and placed the office items that belong back into the drawer.

here's the after picture:

ahhh...that's better. for now.

bummer. seriously.

i honestly intended to organize my home (see older post), but i somehow managed to kill my back. oh, and break my sewing machine. the latter problem has been reconciled, the former is being seen to with the help of my new chiropractor, dr. w. aaaahhhhhhh.

and who knew i had scoliosis? not i. but seeing that x-ray proved it. very interesting.

luckily, i did manage to work on a curtain after my new sewing machine came home. i think it looks very pretty. unfortunately, in my rush to get it done and try out my new machine, i measured incorrectly and made it too short. wah.. i can still see my neighbors. luckily i have more fabric and this can just become something else....

we are not prepared, but we will be soon!

so this time i've decided to join toni hammersley's disaster preparedness challenge. to join me, click on the picture below.

we just made it through hurricane sandy, but in all honesty we would have been in serious trouble if we didn't get power back after a few hours. we barely knew the storm was coming because i seem to live with my head in the sand and were searching for flashlights as the storm was reaching scary status. NEVER AGAIN. what was i thinking? i am a mom to two beautiful, trusting children and an amazing (and VERY important) dog. i should be ashamed of myself....and am. but i'm moving forward and getting prepared. phew.

the thing is, i love bumping into people. i really do! if i could live in a little town where everyone knows everything about everyone (except behind the curtains, of course!), i'd be happy. so bumping into people i know or knew or might like to know someday is one of my favorite things. but why does this only happen on the days when i've left the house with no makeup, or ran out in my last-night's-pajama-yoga pants and ended up staying out all day?!

guaranteed. the day i leave the house with a blob of zit cream on, ex-boyfriend will be next to me in line at starbucks.

Friday...or is it Myday?

i love Fridays! i don't know why since i am at home everyday, but Friday just feels good every time. Friday conjures all sorts of feelings and memories for me - from excitement to relaxation, from sleepovers to long nights reading. i just love it. now that i have children, it's no different. except that i actually get to stay in pjs, if i should so choose, while i get my Friday on. things i love to do on a Friday....cleaning, organizing, crafting, shopping, making cocktails, watching movies with popcorn! i love it all! but on a Friday, it just feels more exciting and fulfilling.  why is that? anyone?

today i'm remembering a Friday night sleepover with a dear friend which included my first pimple, a trip to Jordan Marsh, and a surprise "yes" from mom when i asked her to buy me an ice cream maker!! what a great day. even the pimple was a right/rite of passage. (in retrospect, the first in a long and never-ending line of evil blots on my visage. sigh.) the feeling i had on that Friday, that life was inherently good, is for some reason the same feeling i have almost every Friday.

hence, Myday.

Day 1...or is it night?

and so i'm doing it. everyone else is doing it, so why shouldn't i? today i've spent the majority of my day surfing the blogosphere while looking for better ideas to do some of the things that need doing. i found some great ideas -more on those later, but while I was "out there" i realized that i may have something to contribute. and maybe not, but at least i can try to start documenting the things i do. goodness knows my memory doesn't document things very well for me!

one of the great blogs that i've been following for a while is a bowl full of lemons and i'm going to start my blog by joining the Home Organization 101class.

we are apparently in week 5, the laundry room. that's great because i have been "in the middle of" my laundry room makeover for about a year now. i know for sure because i wrote the date on the can of primer i bought and only used on half of the walls. yup. this is how we do it. sigh. i'll be posting pictures and all. talk about embarrassing. needs to be done.

i'm also tackling the curtain i'm making for the kitchen door. i can't stand that anyone who walks or drives by can see me before i've even seen them. i'm in my house!? hello?? so, since the door will not accept holes drilled by any drill be we've tried, i'm making a faux curtain. you'll see. ;)

for now, i'm off to continue some of these projects, take some pictures, and pack lunches for the munchkins. because munchkin-care is my number one priority!

updated 11.27: Bwahahahaha!! how funny am i? this SO did not happen. i promise myself that i will try again. just not this month. i do little things all the time and i will try to post those, but for now i am just going to have to dive head-first into Christmas preparation! -and First Communion preparation, which begins with First Penance preparation and that is in january! YIKES!!!! see how my life&brain work? yup, you do, because you know yours works the same way too.

i did make one curtain for my kitchen windows. yes, one. my machine has been replaced, but i have yet to learn how to really use the new one!

here it is:
